OHTO's history of innovation dates back to 1929. That is when the company was established in Tokyo and began to manufacture high quality dyes and ink. In 1949 they manufactured the world's first pencil-shaped ballpoint pen with chrome ball. This pen was also the first MADE IN JAPAN ballpoint pen. We can also thank them for other present-day standards like the Roller Pen, which they invented to bring the experience of writing with a ballpoint pen closer to a fountain pen. They also invented ceramic balls in pens and were the first to add rubber grips in pens.

About the Needle Point tip: In 1999, OHTO pioneered a needle shaped tip named Needle Point along with a low-viscosity oil-based ink they named Soft Ink. This combination of the two gave birth to the now basic features of this pen, which include a smooth & consistent ink flow, dark color shade (black ink), and a new and fresh writing feeling every time.

Due to the thinner, straighter shape, the needle tip in comparison with cone tip type, gives better performance in writing small and fine characters or in carbonized papers.
